Left Independence by the 8.40 train. In this place we were annoyed by some of the boys who had never been from home before. Spent a sleepless night. Had a pleasant ride of 70 miles into Dubuque where we arrived at the 3 PM. Took supper at the Jefferson House after which our squad of 27, under 2nd Lient. Ag. McNeff, repaired to camp Union where we went into Quarters.
