    Spent the day as guard, the officer of the guard neglecting to send relief. Sergeant of the guard sent me into see what the matter was, found the Sergeant major just forming the new guard. 

    The pickets gave an alarm this evening which was promptly attended to by the Col leading out a squad of men, alarm false, pickets trying their guns.
