    Independence Co, 14 miles from Batesville. Marched 20 miles. Day rainy, roads bad. Saw wheat headed out. Also potatoes 6 inches high. Also some Bales of cotton and a gin. Passed through the town of Evening Shades. Saw a tar pit.
