Tues 27

The army crossed little Red River on a reconnaissance. They were in force. A sufficient number being left to water the camps. Went 3 or 4 miles south of Searcy, no enemy found that would fight. They to the number of 500 retreated across a creek and formed in line beyond the reach of our muskets after they had burned the bridge.

    Forage was found in abundance.
