Everything ordered to be packed ready to load. 6 camps of Iowa 4th Cavalry went out on a reconnaissance to Red river. Saw the rebels encamped in force. Parts of 2 camps of 3rd Ill Cavalry were taken today while try to remove some sick comrades. Dispatches from Batesville report 10,000 prisoners and 15,000 stand arms taken near Corinth. Genl. Prentiss division who were prisoners have been released on parole. Good news from Richmond. Made acquainted with Bro Kirkpatric Chap Iow 4th Cav who has returned from leave of absence. Excitement subsides and we remain in camp near Fairview.
