    Yesterday's alarm was false. Genl Steel's division unloading their pieces. 

    I have been much indisposed for several days. Chaplain Kirkpatric of 4th Iowa cavalry kindly consented to preach to the regiment for me. 4 companies of the cavalry with 4 pieces of artillery went back up Black River today 40 miles to break up a camp of conscription recruits.
