One year ago today I left a pleasant home, to serve my country as a soldier in the ranks. Have seen such hardship and passed through many dangerous scenes. But through the goodness of God have been brought safely through them all not the slightest wound have I yet received. I trust ever to be ready for any event that may befall me. The late lamented Genl. Robt McCook remarked when dying, "The problem of life will soon be solve." I trust as to the future life it is already solved with me. Wrote letter home. Missouri 5th cavalry brought in some Dromedaries taken from secesh.
