    Attended the funeral of a negro child. The slave mother's heart is as full of affection as her white sisters. Humanity is their as well as ours. The hearty amens show that they appreciate religion. The 1st Mo and 4th Iowa cav had a skirmish this afternoon with a detachment of the 1st Texas cav. our loss killed, wounded and prisoners 35, theirs 9. The revel prisoners are good looking soldiers but lak (sic) uniform.
