    Several regiments landed today. No mail. Gladiator chartered for a trip down the river.

    Rumor of the death of Maj Carpenter? Our prayer meeting not very well attended. These frosty nights rather inclement to hold outdoor services. The warmth of our services not yet sufficient to raise the temperature of the atmosphere. How often do Christians fail to meet together under more favorable circumstances. Help us, savior, to come to thee in secret, that we may feel our hearts strangely warmed.
