Left our anchorage at Friar's point 4 A.M. About day light passed a plantation on fire. The river is rising being now at a good stage, the heaviest draft boats getting over bars easily. Weather pleasant. Men find it pleasant sleeping on hurricane deck, in stateroom sleep with little or no covering.
10 A.M. tied up to shore boats gathering wood. Gun boats supposed to be reconnoitering below. Name of boats in the fleet.

One O Clock P.M. Passed mouth Wnite river. 2PM. Passed mouth Arkansas and the little town of Napolean. Waters of Arkansans present a red clay color. Plantations nearly all deserted few negros left who seem much tickled to see Linkun's Sojers. They would like to be taken on but we are in better business than carrying off negro property. We must leave them to manage the commissary department of the C.S.A.
The river is carrying its banks along with it, thus fulfilling the saying, going into a hole and taking the hole in after it. Tied up for the night below cypress bend (Goins Landing) have made 150 miles.
